My letter to the Howick Historical Village

Thursday 11 July

Dear Howick Historical Village

I am really grateful that I could explore this village and see new things.  Thank you for making us feel welcome and for teaching us about the village.  I really enjoyed playing with the outside toys and learning about how they work. My favorite part was playing with the stilts and playing double dutch because I got the most jumps. I would really enjoy it if stilts were sold nowadays.

The inside toys were really fun but they looked really hard to make.  They were also a little bit challenging to figure out how they work.  My favorite toy was the one when you had to pull the two strings to get the toy to go up to the top.  It’s a great toy for having competitions with.  I wish that we had a few in my class.  Also thank you to the teacher who taught us about them.

I was especially impressed when my class and I went to the school and did handwriting and had a competition with boys at spelling even though they won.  I wouldn’t even of imagined the olden days being liked that.  I also liked how the teacher in there was an awesome actor and growled the teachers about their nails and hair.

Exploring the place was a new adventure to me but I really enjoyed it and had fun seeing everything.  It was fun pumping the water and seeing the rotten corn.  All the ornaments looked awesome and the way the houses looked inside felt like it was the olden days.  I also liked how you built the toilet at the back so we could see how they looked.

Thank you very much.

Yours sincerely,

Lavinia

Scale Drawing Assessment

Scale Drawing Assessment:

One thing I found easy was coloring in the final picture at the end.
One thing I found hard was drawing the right part of the picture in the right square.
I like how the final design looks like the original because most of the drawing is in the right place.  Also the two colors I used both work well together.
Next time I would try to rule all lines in a straight line.

Using the index

Using an index
L.I. - Library/Research skills
Using an index to find information quickly

Most non-fiction books have an index.  Like a table of contents, it lists the books contents and relevant page numbers, but in much more detail.  It presents the topics in alphabetical order to help your search.  Below is an example from a health book.

Cultural Day

Cultural Day

I think schools should have cultural day at least once every term.  Schools are filled with a lot of different cultures like Islanders and Indians. It would be awesome to see different cultures, where everyone can show off where they come from.  You might even learn that some people come from the same culture as you.

For cultural day we could have a lot of different things to do like everyone could bring something of their culture in from home that represents them.  Everyone could also cooperate with each other by playing a game from a different country.  It’s also a great opportunity to teach one another about our own culture and traditions.

Everyone could bring one plate of food that’s from their culture. Like Indians have curry or naan bread and Maoris have hungi or Maori bread. It would be a new experience for everyone to taste new flavours.

People that have been to there country they are from could speak to everyone about their experience and what the people are like in their country.  Especially about how people drive  and the different beaches or amusement parks there are.

So wouldn’t you like to have a awesome cultural day, try out some new foods and flavours, play fun games and experience different things? Well I know I would so lets have a cultural day.
