Life Education

At school on Tuesday the 11th of December my class had our first session with Claire from the Life Education programme.  We learnt about healthy food and how much we have to eat a day.  What I really enjoyed learning was where your poo forms and why it is brown.

These are my questions:

What foods do we see advertised? We see fast food advertised like Mcdonalds, we see chocolate, we see lollies, cheese, crackers and lots of other junk food but we hardly see veges advertised, only if it’s on sale.

What would you change to have a healthier diet?  I would change what I eat such as lollies, fast food and chocolate and drink more water.

How much fruit & veges should we eat a day?  We should eat 2 serves of fruit a day and 3 serves of vegetables a day, also making sure it is a hand full.

Netbook Reflection

Hi my name is Lavinia and I’m an year 7 in room 6 at Panmure Bridge School.  This is my reflection on netbooks at my school.

Positive things about having netbooks are that we can type faster, research what we want, share our work on our blogs, get images off the internet, fix our spelling faster and it will be easier for our teacher to check our work because she can get sore hands from ticking our work and writing in the right answers in our books.

There are also negative things about having a netbooks.  Such as if we use them to much we might have bad handwriting, people might play games and not do their work. People might also go on the wrong sites and people might chat on email.

There are some unusual things about using a netbook and not books such as there are shortcuts, we can change our writing and we can do presentations.

Even though that there are negative things about netbooks I still hope we can still have them.

Julie

Julie at my school
offers to help me when I need it.
She smiles as she invites me
to join in her game.
She always gives up
her time to talk to
the younger students.

My Mum

Her hair’s like
the springs on a trampoline.

Her eyes are two brown
kiwifruit.

Her hearts so kind and friendly.
I  hug her then squeeze.

She’s one of the best
mums in the world.

Day and Night

In the day people tramp and search
for Fantails along the muddy forests trails.
In the night owls hoot and bugs crawl
along the quiet forest floor.

A Girl's Head

A Girl’s Head In it there is a alien with a project for teleporting away with his banjo. And there is a UFO which shall be first And there is an entirely new planet, an entirely new human race, an entirely new creature. There is a dog that walks like a human. There is a car. There is an antiquated spaceship . And it cannot be stopped. I believe that only what cannot be stopped is a head. There is much promise in the circumstance that so many people have heads. My Tui Report

Tui Report A Tui is a black feathered bird and it has a white tuft underneath its chin. A Tui is a native bird to New Zealand. Birds may travel in spring to feed outside their normal territory. Tuis like places with good supplies of nectar. Tuis can be found offshore island and throughout the whole of New Zealand. They also like open country and gardens all over the place. Tuis also live in forest and scrub. Tuis eat all sort of things like fruits, berries, insects and nectar. The first few days of the young, they get fed tiny insects and nectar. Slightly older chicks get fed moths, spiders, berries and large insects, they especially like stick insects. For a Tui egg to hatch it usually takes 2 weeks. The Tuis parents move to offshore islands. Tuis usually have 2-4 eggs. The birds start nesting in November and December the only nesting season. The Tuis are the first to sing in the morning. Tuis have a wide range of notes. The Tuis call is bell-like notes, coughs, croaks and squeaks. Lavinia

I asked the little boy who cannot see Lavinia

I asked the little boy who cannot see I asked the little boy who cannot see, ‘And what is colour like?’ ‘Why, red,’ said he, Is like blood that when you graze your knee, Brown is like my cat purring quietly, Juicy mandarins, as orange as can be, Black like the hate, you want to let out desperately. The soft grass so green, which will stay like that forever. Blue is like the ocean waves, hear them crash together, The sun is yellow, you feel it burning your skin. Lavinia

My graph explination

This graph shows the distances of the planes I have made. For each trial we made different planes. For our first plane Miss Kirkpatrick showed us how to make it., for our second plane my friend Leila showed us and for our third plane Viola showed us. Plane 1 went the shortest distance because I didn’t make it right. Plane 3 went the furthest for me because I made it right.

Swimming recount

                  Swimming recount
I wondered if it is going to be cold? Ahhhh! It’s cold! I hopped into the pool and ducked under. It was really refreshing and cool.
It was a Wednesday afternoon and it was boiling. Everyone had hopped into the pool and gathered around  Ms Kirkpatrick.  She told us the instructions. Before we had free time in the pool we swam to the other side of the pool and back without breathing. It was tiring. After that we got into a line and started swimming freestyle. Freestyle was little bit hard because you have to breathe at the right time. We all got tired so Ms Kirkpatrick told  us to do the stingray. Stingray is when you swim on your back and move your your arms up and down in the water. At the end we got to have a little bit of free time so I had handstand competition with my friends.

The next day on Thursday the sun was out again. We also got to swim again but this time in the morning. We did something way different compared to the other days. We had to do Dolphin dive and Duck dive. It was really awesome. I really enjoyed doing the Dolphin dive better than the duck dive. While doing the Duck and Dolphin dive we had to go down and get  disk. It was challenging but the best swimming activity we did all week.

On Friday Miss Kirkpatrick let me swim with the Friday group. I was so glad because it was so hot. Mr Burton said our activity was snorkeling so he gave us our snorkels. I started to swim and  played with  my friends underneath the water. I really enjoyed those three days. They were so awesome!!

I know someone who can...

I know someone who can..

I know someone who can
do the bendy bridge.
I know someone who can
do a handstand and fall flat on their back.
I know someone who can
wiggle their ears.
I know someone who can
do a rolling cartwheel.
I know someone who can
throw peanuts in the air and catch it in their mouth.
I know someone who can
roll their tongue up like a burrito.
I know someone who can
swim freestyle as fast as her friend Leila.
I know someone who can
swim backwards and nearly drown.
I know someone who can
eat cake mixture without getting a sore stomach.
I know someone who can
be a monkey and climb to the top of a very high tree.
I know someone who can
do a back flip on a trampoline.
I know someone who can
swim the whole pool using breast stroke and freestyle.
And that someone is
ME!

My fabulous, fantastic holiday!

Yay! Yay! It’s Friday. I was waiting for this day. Today my brother and I were going out with my sister Crystal. First we went to mini golf near the airport. I was so excited. There were paths you can pick. One was the pirate ship and the other was the cave. We picked the pirate ship because the cave was full. We all had a blast! My brother won and I was angry but I enjoyed it.

After mini golf we had one of the most delicous food you can ever eat which is Dukin’ Donuts. It was so yummy I wanted some more. Than we had Wendy’s for lunch it was spectacular. There were like a big bottle of coke and there chips were like 5 of McDonald’s chips put together. Wants we finished headed to do something fun.

We went movies to watch Sione’s wedding 2. My sister Crystal Bought 3 ice creams, drinks and popcorn. It was yummy! The movie was really great I really enjoyed it. It was really funny but really sad too. We left the movies and went to go do 1 more thing with my sister before
we went home.

We sat in her car for a while deciding what to do then I came up with and idea POOL! My sister thought it was a great idea so we headed off. We finally got there it wasn’t that full so my sister went and payed. We started to play it was my sister and versus my brother. Of course we won but I got nothing except the white ball.

I wasn’t good at first but got better and better. Our time finally ran out so we left and said thank you to my sister. Then she drop us off and I told everyone about our day.
